— MOF Azumi: Japan, China To Coordinate on A Further IMF Funding
TOKYO (MNI) – Finance Minister Jun Azumi said on Tuesday that Japan
and China agree that eurozone countries need to make more of an effort
to resolve the sovereign debt crisis before asking for help from other
regions.
Azumi, who was in Beijing last weekend for a routine meeting to
discuss bilateral and global financial issues, told reporters that the
eurozone “has more room to make its own efforts.”
He said Japan and China would consult each other before talking to
the International Monetary Fund if the two countries were to increase
their financial contributions to the fund in order to help alleviate the
European debt crisis.
“As far as I know, (the international community) has not yet come
to a stage” where they can decide how much the IMF should boost its
funds for loans to the eurozone, Azumi said.
