Ho hum start ahead of the FOMC minutes later today
The US stocks are opening with modest changes in the major indices. The Nasdaq is leading the way, but even so, is not running away. A snapshot a few minutes into the day shows:
- S&P index is up 0.25 points or 0.01% at 2779.87
- NASDAQ index isup 9 points or 0.12% at 7496
- Dow industrial average 7.5 points or 0.02% at 25 898
In the US debt market, yields are a little higher with the yield curve steepening:
- 2 year 2.49%, +0.2 basis points
- 5 year 2.466%, +0.8 basis points
- 10 year 2.648%, +1.6 based points
- 30 year 3.003%, +2.5 basis points
In other markets:
- spot gold is up $2 or 0.16% at $1343
- WTI crude oil futures are trading down $.28 or -0.5% at $55.81
- Bitcoin is off high levels but still trades higher by $33 and $3920. The high price extended to $3967. The 100 day moving averageis below at $3819.26
The GBP has taken over as the weakest currency from the NZD. The GBPUSD is trading at 1.3022. The 200 day MA remains a key level below at 1.30026 today (get below 1.3000). The CAD remains the strongest currency. The USD is getting stronger since the earlier NY trading.
