Trump and Juncker met today, so far we've had positive vibes but nothing from the two as yet, but here they are now:
Trump remarks:
- says we agreed to work together towards zero tariffs
- EU will begin almost immediately to buy more US soybeans
- Agreement will reduce trade bureaucracy
- Agreed with Juncker to set up a working group to carry out joint trade agenda
- Will work with EU to reform WTO
- Will start trade negotiations, resolve steel and aluminium tariffs, retaliatory tariffs
Juncker now:
- US will build more LNG export terminals
- Says US, EU will hold off on further tariffs while trade negotiations take place.
Hats off to Juncker, he appears to have come away with some positives from this this. He is putting some wariness out there, though: "US, EU will hold off on further tariffs while trade negotiations take place." So don't get too excited on this. Yes it is progress, but not of the 'buy with your ears pinned back' kind, K?
