President Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker met Wednesday, we've had the presser and so forth:
- Trump / Juncker presser: Trump says US and EU will both win
- More Juncker: Agreed on need to address forced tech transfer
Here, in a real quick nutshell is what has been agreed:
- Both Trump and Juncker can head home and say they got a deal … for politicians this is important
- EU agreed to almost immediately buy more US soybeans, natural gas
- The EU and the US are going to try to lower industrial trade barriers
- The EU would like now for Trump to halt the imposition of steel tariffs on the EU (I didn't use the hope the word but that's what the EU is doing, they also 'hope' Trump will not focus on tariffs on EU cars)
So far, so underwhelming
Note that Juncker might have to buy the soybeans hisself … he cannot commit any country to buy more, let alone the 'EU' (they don't eat many soybeans at their their headquarters in Brussels)
Look, this is a nothing burger.
BUT … well, ya gotta start somewhere. At least they are talking.
Juncker looks like he is waiting for Happy Hour to start at his hotel
