Brexit: Ireland's border to be discussed in Brussels
The spotlight in Europe today will be on the U.K. manufacturing survey at 0830GMT with most other markets closed.
The key takeaway from the data will be:
- Was the weakness in Q1 solely due to poor weather (yes, it was really bad here in the UK), or is there a more serious problem in the economy. See Justin's post here for a run down.
In the background also sits the Brexit negations taking place in Brussels this week over the problem regarding a hard land border with Ireland once Britain withdraws from the eurozone. This is a very complicated and charged political problem and presents considerable difficulties in finding a solution. It would be reasonable to expect at least a few GBP negative hiccups along the way...
