Synchronicity time … this struck me today:
I posted earlier on BOC Gov Poloz making the remark (re Nafta) that:
- Canada's dependence on US has been trending down over 15 years
Which, coming from Poloz would be true, but I think misses the point that a reduction in trade relations with a huge market right next door is a huge risk and is in no way a positive. The remark strikes me as complacent, at best, and pollyanna-ish at worst
And I can't help but look at the comments coming out of the UK, those keen on dismembering trade ties with the EU, and wonder the same thing. Complacent at best.
The EU have made it very clear that there will be no more unfettered access to their markets without EU membership and I reckon that a reduction in trade relations with a huge market right next door is a huge risk and is in no way a positive.
