At 0015GMT the RBA’s Guy Debelle speaks at at the Australasian Finance and Banking Conference in Sydney, followed by a panel discussion.
At 0030GMT the RBA minutes for the December monetary policy meeting will be released. Given the comments from Glenn Stevens last week, it will be surprising if these are not dovish.
The Mid-year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) is at 0130GMT. Australian Treasurer Hockey is expected to announce a budget deficit of $47 bn (up from a $30 billion projection three month’s ago). The overall debt position is expected to be announced at more than $500 billion. Australia has a AAA rating from the agencies, for now. Could this change after today?
