Here is a bit of a rundown on what we know on the Nafta framework deal so far
In summary (this via Canada's Globe and Mail, here is the link) … all this is via unnamed sources:
- Canada and the U.S. have reached a tentative deal to overhaul Nafta
- Trump signed off on the agreement late Sunday night
- Chapter 19 dispute settlement provision preserved
- also keeps in place protections for Canadian cultural industries
- American farmers can more products into Canada'
- Three sources said a side agreement, meanwhile, would see American tariffs lifted on Canadian steel and aluminium, and a guarantee the Trump administration will not impose tariffs on most auto imports from Canada. In exchange, however, Canada would accept a quota system that would place stricter limits on the export of Canadian-made vehicles into the U.S. market
These points have been pretty much covered in earlier posts.
