I posted earlier on this here: Brexit - Boris lost the vote but it appears a December election is still a strong possibility
On Monday Johnson lost his vote for a December 12 election:
- under the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act
- he got 299 votes in favour but needed 434
On Tuesday he plans to introduce a 'short bill'
- a one-line bill to set aside the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act
- again he wants to set the date for Dec 12
- this bill would only need a majority, not the two-thirds majority the Monday 9and prior) bills needed
Minor parties, Lib Dems and SNP, seem to support this bill, although they want a Dec 9 vote (to allow more students to vote in their university towns) and assurance exit is on hold. Labour is considering also supporting the bill, the optics of opposing again are not favourable, so they say.
Yesterday I mentioned taking this thing one day at a time. I reckon one hour at a time might be even better advice. Stay tuned ….
