Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey told The Wall Street Journal in an interview:
“We want the economy to grow strongly. We are not going to do anything that will detract from the overall level of growth in the economy. It’s hugely important that you get the balance right, that you don’t detract from growth.”
- Hockey said record-low interest rates from the Reserve Bank of Australia can keep the economy growing while he carves out a “credible path to budget surplus”
- “I think we can roll out fiscal consolidation with growth. Monetary policy will do some of the heavy lifting”
