The strongest and weakest currencies as NA traders enter for the day

AUD is the strongest. JPY is the weakest.

The strongest currency as NA traders enter for the day is the AUD. The JPY is the weakest. This combination is a departure from what happened last week. Most days had the JPY as the strongest on flight to safety flows while commodity/risk currencies were hit. Chinese stock markets were still hit - and hit hard with the Shanghai composite down a whooping 5.33%, but the European equity markets are positive. The US pre-market prices have the S&P futures up about 7 points, and the Nasdaq futures up 14 points after last weeks, 1st week of the year tumble.

The volatility today shows that the major pairs against the US are trading near the 22-day average (with the USDJPY and USDCHF extending above what is average.

As for the greenback the trend from last week is reversed with the USD falling against the AUD, NZD, GBP and CAD and rising against the EUR, JPY and CHF. EURGBP is on the move - correcting to the downside after rising last week.
