Snapshot shows the USD is higher but gains focused in the JPY, CHF and NZD
The snapshot of the major currencies at the start of the NA session is showing the CAD is the strongest, while the JPY is the weakest.
Although the CAD is strongest, the gains are mostly focused on the JPY and the CHF for the gains. With stocks expected to open higher in the US and European stocks recovering off their lows, the CAD (and AUD) are seeing risk on flows. For the JPY, it too is seeing flows back out of the relative safety of the JPY. The USDJPY is making new highs as I type.
The changes are showing the JPY pairs pushing the upper extremes of the day and the ranges expanding with the making of the new highs. Nevertheless, the activity vs the 22 day average range (red line in the lower chart) is mostly contained.
In other markets, the snapshot is showing:
- Spot gold is down $9.77 or -0.73% at $1335.22. The high dollar is hurting the price of gold
- The WTI crude oil futures are down $.44 of -0.67% at $64.81
- The price of bitcoin is higher by $56 to $8045. The range is now for the day with a low price of $7727 and a high price of $8088 (only $366).
