European equities cheer US-EU trade deal to kick start the new week

  • A positive open as investors sense relief that a trade war is averted
Trump von der Leyen Handshake
  • Eurostoxx +1.0%
  • Germany DAX +0.8%
  • France CAC 40 +1.1%
  • UK FTSE +0.4%
  • Spain IBEX +0.8%
  • Italy FTSE MIB +0.8%

The worst case scenario is avoided as the EU concedes in order to try and make the best out of a bad situation. That said, lawmakers are adamant that they will be seeking better terms and that this is a "temporary" agreement. However, it might be one that they could have to endure all through Trump's term as president. We'll have to wait and see on more actual details but for now, 15% baseline tariffs look to be the name of the game.
