Last month's non-farm payrolls report was such a mess that it's not a surprise that the market is muddling along sideways today. Moreover, the firing of the BLS chief could lead to some strange takes on Friday.

The S&P 500 is up 12 points in early trading or 0.2%. We've seen some mid-day selling so far this week along with some strong bids into the close.
