The news that Japan is poised to allow Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) to include data center equipment in their portfolios is not new. It was flagged earlier.
NTT DATA announced plans for a domestic data center-specialized REIT around this time in 2024. It was set tp launch by March 2026.
The REIT inclusion would likely make it easier for companies to raise capital for data center projects.
