USTR Greer is speaking and says:
- We are always going to trade with China, need to find a place where both countries are comfortable.
- China's reliance on export is not sustainable.
- I want to get to a place where trade with China is more balanced.
- China 'wolf warrior' ethos has leaked into US – China economic relations
- China negotiations have a more political edge to them.
- Average tariff of 55% on Chinese imports is the status quo.
- USTR will pretty much be fully functioning in the event of a government shutdown.
- US tariff revenues could reach $600 billion-$1 trillion per year.
- We believe Supreme Court will defer to Trump on national emergency over trade deficit.
- Some tariff revenue should go to support US producers, critical industries like shipbuilding.
- A lot of North American trade negotiations will be bilateral, not trilateral
- Discussing Mexico's noncompliance with USMCA trade deal ahead of renegotiation process
