The broader stock indices threatened to close at record levels with the S&P index getting within one point of a record high level. The comes in at 6147.43. The high price today reached 6146.52.
The NASDAQ index also sniffed a record level with the high price today reaching 20187.15. The record high is at 20204.58.
Both indices did back off modestly into the close.
