The unfortunate reality is that the siege on Kyiv will continue until Russia does gain control one way or another. China president Xi is the latest to have had a phone call with Putin and pushed to resolve the issue via negotiations, so I'm guessing Zelensky is trying to leverage off that latest development. I don't see it happening but one can always hope.
