Bloomberg is out with an interesting article, highlighting that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics -- the agency responsible for preparing the CPI report - is hiring 25 price collectors.
These people will go door-to-door to businesses and report on prices in various locations in the United States. There is a federal hiring freeze but the agency has been forced to perform a guessing game on pricing data because it's understaffed.
The jobs close in just a few days and that should help data quality collection in the months ahead.
Then again, with starting pay at just $21.54 to $25.39 an hour, a hedge fund could do the funniest thing.
