This is in relation to more than 300 South Korean workers deported from the US from one plant where they were helping build a $4.3bn battery plant to bolster US industry.
Over zealous ICE agents with strict quotas to fill imposed a rule that had been previously overlooked by the US. The workers were helping build US industry, but that didn't matter to ICE, who have since been chastised (for only following orders!):
- workers using B1 business visas and the 90-day visa waiver programme
- a “grey zone” because the official H-1B work visas take months to obtain
