Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday dismissed President Donald Trump’s claim that bipartisan talks are underway over expiring health insurance subsidies, saying no such negotiations are taking place.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that discussions with Democrats “could lead to very good things … with regard to health care,” and later repeated that “we are speaking with the Democrats,” without naming any participants.
Schumer countered that the president’s comments were inaccurate. “Trump’s claim isn’t true — but if he’s finally ready to work with Democrats, we’ll be at the table,” he said in a statement.
