Pacific Island countries have not agreed to region-wide trade and security deal with China

An ICYMI - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterparts from 10 Pacific nations met in Fiji. China was seeking a deal covering free trade, police cooperation and disaster resilience. The deal was viewed with alarm by the US and Australia (amongst others).

However, nothing was agreed to. Not yet anyway ...

China and Fiji agreed separately to 3 deals regarding economic development.
