In case you missed it, Shigeru Ishiba announced his resignation over the weekend after the disastrous upper house election loss back in July. The writing was already on the wall and it took him long enough to finally step down. The Japanese yen has opened lower in trading to start the week while domestic equities are cheering on with relief from the announcement.

However, it looks like we might have to wait until next month for his successor to be confirmed.
