Japan PM Kishida says aiming to raise minimum wages beyond ¥1,000 nationwide

  • Remarks by Japan prime minister, Fumio Kishida
  • Government to mobilise all measures available to prepare environment for wage hikes
  • This spring marks a turning point for growth and wealth distribution

For some context, the minimum wage in Japan now is ¥961, which will kick into effect in the next fiscal year starting April. So, at the minimum that's at least a 4% increase. Other worker unions are likely to see a higher average bump in wages but we'll wait and see on the announcement to follow.
