Japan PM Kishida orders 9 nuclear power plants to be brought back on line, stat

Prime Minister Kishida banked extra upper house seats in last weekend's election.

He has quickly jumped to address rising energy prices, ordering his industry minister to have up to nine nuclear power plants operational in time for the Japanese winter (mere months away).

Kishida made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Japan time.

To the extent this lessens Japan's reliance on importing energy it's a yen positive (at the margin).
