This series has been particularly volatile over the last few months, so there is a caveat to the reading above. The big drop in January comes after a big rise in industrial orders in December. The latter owed to a surge in aircraft orders involving Airbus at the end of last year. As such, things are not as bad as the headline reading would suggest.
