EU full ban on Russian coal reportedly to be pushed back to mid-August

  • Reuters reports, citing a source familiar with the matter

EU diplomats are set to approve the measures today but the nature of the ban would only take full effect from mid-August, a month later than initially proposed. The source cited says that this comes after pressure from Germany to delay the measure, as outlined earlier here.

I've said it yesterday as well, oil and gas are still the two bigger items at stake but at least the coal ban would represent the first foray by the EU into sanctioning Russian energy. Baby steps.
