China will allow power prices to move in a wider band

  • Statement from the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China (NDRC)

One of the factors behind the power shortages in China late last year (a major factor) was that while coal prices were rocketing electricity providers were bound by price limits (to consumers of electricity) ... hence power cuts when it became economically unfeasible for the plants to keep producing electricity.

NDRC taking steps now to ease the potential for this to happen again.
