Xinhua: US approach to trade talks "regrettable", China is not afraid to fight, will do so if necessary

I posted earlier on a commentary piece in China's official paper of the Communist Party. People's Daily:

More from that piece:

• "China has complete confidence to face all possible difficulties and challenges in the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation process, which is why China has always been able to maintain its composure"

The commentary was published under the name "Zhong Sheng", meaning "Voice of China". This is most often used to convey the paper's view on foreign policy issues.

Meanwhile, Xinhua is a little more to the point:

• called the U.S. approach "regrettable"
• said consultation was the "correct way" to solve trade issues
• "Regarding the China-U.S. trade war, China has always been reluctant to fight, but is not afraid to fight, and will fight when necessary"

Xinhua is the official news agency.
