WSJ reports that North Korea expands key missile-manufacturing plant

This is not breaking news, there are plenty of reports around that North Korea is building its nuclear arsenal

This from the weekend, for example:

  • United States intelligence officials, citing newly obtained evidence, have concluded that North Korea does not intend to fully surrender its nuclear stockpile, and instead is considering ways to conceal the number of weapons it has and secret production facilities, according to US officials

If you are shocked by this, errr …. ? Ummm, you shouldn't be. Kim Jong Un may be a young chap but he has played his hand exceptionally well and continues to do so.

NK tensions tend to see flows into yen.

Anyway, back to the Journal (WSJ is gated, but here is the link):

  • North Korea is completing a major expansion of a key missile-manufacturing plant, said researchers who have examined new satellite imagery of the site the latest sign Pyongyang is pushing ahead with weapons programs even as the U.S. pressures it to abandon them.
  • The facility makes solid-fuel, ballistic missiles-which would be able to strike U.S. military installations in Asia with a nuclear weapon with little warning-as well as re-entry vehicles for warheads that Pyongyang might use on longer-range missiles able to hit the continental U.S.

Happy days, eh?
