This story has been brewing over the last few weeks, since NY police took an overly heavy hand to the initial Wall Street protesters. On a quick trawl through the major newspapers and newssites, like Bloomberg, Reuters, WSJ and FT, I saw on average 2 prominent articles per publication on the demonstrations in the US, Italy etc. I know it’s common practice to blame the bankers for everything, but its hard not to apportion at least a significant proportion of the blame to them, for their greed on top of greed, on top of more greed. Human nature must also be blamed as we are unable to delay gratification, and must have everything now. Whatever the cause, these protests are growing in size and strength and we must consider that their impact will grow over the coming months.
