Week ahead for Australia and New Zealand – a lot on the agenda

Just scanning through the list of what's to come from the RBA and also data releases (just the biggies, there are others):

Tuesday's National Australia Bank Business Survey for February

  • Business confidence and conditions ... and all the details of course. Both are doing well .... wage growth, not so much
  • RBA speaker - Michele Bullock, Assistant Governor (Financial System)
  • Australian housing finance data for January

Wednesday:

  • While not Australia or NZ ... China data for February - industrial production, retail sales and more
  • Westpac - Melbourne Institute February Australian Consumer Sentiment (remember February and the equity market plunge ... the survey was conducted while this was going on, so expect some nail-biting to be evident in the results)
  • Reserve Bank of Australia speaker - Christopher Kent, Assistant Governor (Financial Markets), at the KangaNews DCM Summit (watch this one for intrestinterest rate remarks)

Thursday

  • NZ Q4 GDP - late 2017 showed some slowing of the New Zealand economy ... but still growing

Friday

  • Speech by RBA Deputy Governor Guy Debelle, at the Financial Risk Day. The topic is risk and return in a low rate environment; of the 3 RBA speeches this week, this one will be the most closely heeded. He is the dep gov, after all.
