Two different BOE policymakers, two different perspectives. Governor King, who has not been afraid to talk down the pound in the recent past, says the weak pound could help the UK recover faster than other economies. Relative to year-ago levels the pound is weaker across the board but well off its lows.
The stronger pound in recent months (up 20% from December) is helping restrain inflation according to Sentance. MPC member Kate Barker is on the wires right now saying sterling appreciation has been unhelpful for economic activity.
It is all in one’s perspective, I guess.
