Financials continue to suffer
The major US stock indices are ending the session with mixed results. The Nasdaq is leading the way. The S&P was up but lagged. The Dow ended the session with a small loss
- Nasdaq is closing up 65.34 points or 0.85% at 7761.04. The high reached 7768.60, while the low extended to 7723.53
- S&P is closing up 7.02 points or 02.5% at 2782.61. The high reached 2789.06, while the low extended to 2776.52
- Dow is closing down -23.86 points or -0.10% at 25177. The high reached 25,322 while the low extended to 25,138.
The financials continued to lag. US yields moved lower and the yield curve flattened despite much stronger than expected retail sales:
- PNC financial fell -2.59%
- J.P. Morgan fell -1.75%
- Citigroup fell -1.66%
- Deutsche Bank fell -1.36%
- Charles Schwab fell -1.31%
- Bank of America fell -1.07%
- Wells Fargo fell -0.73%
- Morgan Stanley fell -0.56%
The winners were some familiar names of late:
- Twitter rose +6.15%
- Tesla increased +3.75%
- Netflix rose +3.4%
- Facebook rose was 2.29%
- Alibaba rose was 2.11%
- Nvidia rose +1.72%
- Alphabet rose +1.53%
- Amazon rose +1.11%
