US official: Hopes to resolve rare earth dispute without litigation

Trade disputes rarely have major market impact, but when the world’s banker is involved, all bets are off. The EU has joined with the US in this case versus China and markets are worried that China may try and send a message to the EU when the EFSF sells bonds next week.

A Chinese buyers-strike could rattle some cages, to be sure.
