US DATA: The Conference Board May consumer confidence index 64.9 vs
68.7 in April. The Expectations index 77.6 vs 80.4 in Apr. The May
Present Situations index 45.9 vs 51.2 Apr. The Conference Board said
consumers were less positive about current business and labor market
conditions as well as their short-term outlook. However, the Conf Brd
said consumers were more upbeat about their income prospects. “Taken
together, the retreat in the Present Situation Index and softening in
consumer expectations suggest that the pace of economic growth in the
months ahead may moderate,” the Conf Brd said.
