US DATA: Challenger reports 37,135 planned layoffs in May, up slightly
from the 36,490 reported in April, but down from 38,810 in May 2010.
Layoffs were again led by the government/non-profit sector. Challenger
said that despite mixed economic news, it is “unlikely” that there will
be a sudden spike in downsizing with a major shock. See MNI main wire.
