This surge in deaths may seem at adds of the comments from

• Trump says the data suggests US has passed the peak for new cases of COVID-19

But deaths lag behind new case reports. New case reports are complicated also by testing volume. Also, if there is a down trend it will not be smooth, there will be rises even if the overall trend is lower. .
