UK's May says her cabinet "is united in the mission of this government"

UK PM May being interviewed on BBC tv this morning 1 Oct

  • working to get a deal with EU
  • govt departments are looking at what we need to put place if no Brexit deal
  • cabinet is agreed on Brexit approach
  • we will need to look at any changes that come through during a transition period
  • during the implementation period we will abide by the framework that we've already got with EU

May under pressure and scrutiny ahead of the Conservative Party conference in Manchester starting today and being asked to acknowledge at least that she has a problem with lack of authority over her government.

May deflects the question from Marr "Is Boris Johnson un-sackable ?" .

"A nest of singing birds that has at least one enormous cuckoo and a few vultures sitting in it" said Marr to her in reference to BoJo midweek denying rifts in the govt and claiming the cabinet is a nest of singing birds. Priceless, and his questioning throughout this interview had May in a real muddle on her 61st birthday. Somewhat "Marred" you might say.

Expect plenty of rhetoridc and peacock-suiting over the next few days culminating in the PM's key note closing address to the party faithful and not so faithful on Wednesday morning between 09-11.00 GMT.

Already today on the same tv show May has seemingly U-turned yet again and put a freeze on university tuition fees and pledged to extend the Help to Buy scheme which helps people buy newly-built homes in a bid to win back younger voters. Adam had the original rumours in The Telegraph yesterday

Here's the conference schedule for today and tomorrow. In terms of impact on the pound fin min Hammond's speech tomorrow morning is the one to be aware of .

Enjoy the rest of your week-end dear readers. See you all back here tomorrow for more fun n games in the ever fickle world of forex.
