UK's May finally wins a Brexit case in court

Theresa May wins challenge over Brexit vote on EEA

It's been a busy few weeks for May in UK courts and hot from losing the case on giving MP's a say over triggering article 50, May's won a High court case over the EEA.

Two campaigners put up the challenge to say that the government has no mandate to withdraw from the single market because there was no mention of leaving the EEA on the referendum ballot papers, and so MP's should be allowed to vote on leaving.

The case had been given a 2-3 hour window to be heard but it took only 45 minutes, with judges taking just 3 minutes to make their decision.

The governments argument for dismissing the case was that;

"It's entirely possible that Parliament will take a whole series of steps in relation to this. This application is premature and should be dismissed for that reason."

This may not be the end of the case though as judges won't release their reasons for rejecting the case until 14.00GMT, and what they say could give grounds for a re-issue of the challenge later on when the government's position becomes clearer.

The Telegraph has more here.

That might have been the reason for the run back to 1.2500 in cable earlier and this is one to watch in the weeks ahead, if a new challenge gets issued.
