UK's Johnson says Brexit transition should not last "a second more" than 2 years

UK foreign minister in The Sun ahead of Conservative party conference 30 Sept

Yes folks, the latest in-party feuding comments as we await the Conservative party pleas to the faithful, or not so faithful.

Expect lots more jawboning/positioning over the next few days.

Opposition Labour Party felt the love a little at their conference this week and the storms still rage over the government's handling of Brexit and PM May's authority.

Here's the latest from Bojo published this morning:

  • The transition period post-Brexit must be a maximum of 2yrs.. & not a second more
  • UK must refuse to accept new EU or ECJ rulings during transition
  • No payments for single market access when transition ends
  • UK must not agree to shadow EU rules to gain access to market

He adds :

"I got that from my own talking to people. Very strongly.

"What that teaches me is that really is it. Rien ne va plus. Finito la musica. Then we come out. There can be no monkeying around.

Am I impatient about it, do I want to get it done as fast as possible? Yes, absolutely. Do I want the delay to go on longer than two years? Not a second more."

Plenty of theatre to come from the conference over the next few days but I'm not sure how it affects the pound. I can't see any of it being positive though as the in-house fighting continues.
