According to a report by the Evening Standard newspaper
The report is saying that Carney is asked to remain as BOE governor until 2020. Carney had previously stated he will leave the central bank in June 2019, one more year than his initial commitment of five years (he started back in 2013).
Typically, a BOE governor will serve an eight-year term but Carney had made it clear from the onset that he wasn't going to so it's doubtful that he would go through with this. But if the report is true, then it sure looks like the UK Treasury is struggling to find a replacement for Carney.
Update: Reuters is now highlighting that a UK Treasury spokesman "does not recognise" the report above and that its plans to recruit a new BOE governor remains the same. Classic.
