Well, if you ask me, I don't think it'd be wise for May to champion a proposal to the EU without getting the backing from parliament at this point. Regardless, I don't see how they can come away with getting a breakthrough on the Irish border/backstop unless concessions are made.
If those concessions come from May, parliament will no doubt shoot them down. Round and round we go.
