FT report
A number of Tory MPs have told the Financial Times that they are on standby for an election in October.
Johnson has said he won't hold an election until he delivers Brexit. He also said Brexit is going to come before the end of October.
I expect that will prove to be an impossible circle to square, with parliament blocking a no-deal Brexit and anything built around the current withdrawal agreement doomed.
A former cabinet minister said: "My August will be taken up preparing for an election, writing literature raising money. I think it's more likely to be in the spring but you could conceive it could happen in the autumn."
The latest polls show the Conservatives and Labour tied with the Brexit party and Lib Dems not far behind.
