Not just high level discussions apparently
With Japan PM Abe meeting with Pres. Trump over the next couple of days, the US President is out taking he has been speaking with North Korean Leader Kim.
Abe was taken by surprise with the news that Trump and Abe would be meeting. Abe has been left out of the the recent discussions despite being one of the major powers in the region, and because of their close proximity to North Korea and their nuclear arsenal. Kim and China's Xi also met recently.
Abe will will want reassurances that the security threat will not be overlooked and that the US also pushes for banning of short and medium range missiles. He is fearful that the US will simply focus on the longer term missiles.
