Trump will announce expanded travel and immigration ban
The ebola crisis in 2014 was one of the things that helped launch Donald Trump's political career. His sentiment at the time was this:
With 5 confirmed cases of coronavirus now in the US, many are expect Trump to take dramatic actions to close the border from Chinese nationals, or at least those arriving directly.
That may still come but he will be targeting some other countries first.
Multiple reports say he will expand his travel ban and restrict immigration from:
- Nigeria
- Myanmar
- Sudan
- Belarus
- Eritrea
- Kyrgyzstan
- Tanzania
The countries wouldn't necessarily face blanket bans on travel to the US but could have restrictions on certain types of visas. The WSJ reports that one or two countries could be removed based on plans to build Trump hotels internal White House debates.
The announcement is expected on the three-year anniversary of the ban affecting Iran, Syria, Libya, Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen and Somalia.
