Trump berated Sessions in May
Trump invited Jeff Sessions to the Oval Office and berated him after learning he had appointed a special counsel to review allegations of election meddling by the Russians, the New York Times reports.
Accusing Mr. Sessions of "disloyalty," Mr. Trump unleashed a string of insults on his attorney general.
Ashen and emotional, Mr. Sessions told the president he would quit and sent a resignation letter to the White House, according to four people who were told details of the meeting. Mr. Sessions would later tell associates that the demeaning way the president addressed him was the most humiliating experience in decades of public life.
Sessions evidently delivered his resignation letter but the President's advisors told him not to accept it because it would cause more problems.
In July, he told aides he was going to remove Sessions once again but also didn't follow through.
The NYT reports the relationship has improved slightly but that he may now be at odds with Trump on immigration after the President undermined his efforts on DACA.
From the sounds of this report, I'm betting it was a Bannon leak. Sessions is cast as a true believer in the fight against immigrants.
