Trump and Juncker meet in Washington today

Some initial thoughts while it's quiet

The US president, Donald Trump will meet European commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker at the White House in Washington later today.

Discussions will focus around the future of trade between the US and the European block, amid deteriorating transatlantic relations that are funnily enough, being played out on social media.

No, this is isn't a high school model, it's the actual state of global politics in 2018. Who would have thought it.

In the midst of a battle with China, Trump has been most vocal about his threats to add tariffs there. But with Europe now coming to town, it's safe to assume that his loud and very public intimidation tactics are going to now shift.

Remember his warning that he intended to impose tariffs on the imports of all automobiles and parts? Well what headlines we're going to see printed tonight certainly adds a spanner into the works for a EUR/USD market which is still largely fixated on the ECB meeting tomorrow.

Check out the EUR/USD technical view I posted earlier for more thoughts there.
