ADP has been tracking private non-farm payrolls
Michael McKee on Bloomberg TV just had up a great chart showing the correlation between the establishment survey in the non-farm payrolls report against ADP employment. Since ADP rejigged some of their methodology, they've been tracking closely.
One issues is that these numbers are revised, so you might not see the correlation in Friday's number. The second issue is that January is a particularly volatile month because of corporate layoffs and the end of the holidays.
