Busy times for the PM
Theresa May was up in Nottingham this morning to kick start the Conservatives campaign for the upcoming local elections 4th May.
These elections are going to be watched very carefully as an assessment of May's handling of Brexit. It's the first big round of local elections since the Brexit vote and while nothing Brexit related will be on the manifestos to vote on, it's likely to be vote of confidence on the government.
There will be elections in 32/152 councils in England, all 32 in Scotland and all 22 in Wales, so it's a pretty big event.
If May suffers heavy losses, we're likely to see the pound suffer a similar fate. Should her party hold or gain in the elections, that should see the pound gain, or at least hold steady (depending on what else is happening at the time of course).
May's a busy bee today as she's probably already hot-footing it back down the M1 to London to met Donald Tusk today at 12.00 GMT. No doubt we'll get plenty of pleasant comments about how both want to keep negotiations friendly, and maintain a good relationship with each other after Brexit but be on guard if one or t'other come out with anything stronger.
